Dear Friends of the Kolbe Center,
Christ is born! Glorify Him!
In this joyous season, all who bear the Name of Christian rejoice in the Virgin Birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God.
But why do we believe in the Virgin Birth?
Why do Christian believers of all kinds believe in this unreasonable reality?
A Virgin's womb has no natural potency to produce a child.
If a Virgin's womb could somehow be preserved for a thousand, or a million, or a billion years, it would never produce a child.
The first prophecy of the Messiah in Genesis 3:15 tells us that "the seed" of a "Woman" would be completely exempt from Satan's power and would bring about the downfall of Satan's kingdom.
But no woman naturally produces "seed."
Thus, the Virgin Birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ was totally supernatural.
Why, then, do all Christians believe in the Virgin Birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ?
God's Word as believed and proclaimed in God's Church teaches this Truth
All Christians believe in the Virgin Birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ because God's Word as believed and proclaimed in God's Church teaches this Truth - that the Son of God, the "last Adam," was conceived in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary by the power of the Holy Ghost, just as the "first Adam" was created by God from the "virgin earth" at the beginning of time.
The "virgin earth" had no natural power to produce a human body, any more than the Blessed Virgin's womb had a natural power to produce the Sacred Body of Our Lord.
We believe that the "first Adam" was created body and soul from the "virgin earth" because that is what God revealed to His truthful witness Moses who handed it down to us in the sacred history of Genesis. That is what the one, holy, Catholic and apostolic Church has believed and taught from the beginning - simply because God revealed it to us as an historical fact in His inspired, inerrant Word.
In short, the reason Catholics have always believed that Our Lord Jesus Christ was born of the Blessed Virgin Mary is the same reason that Catholics have always believed that "in six days God created the heavens, the earth, the seas and all they contain, and rested on the seventh day" - whether they held to the overwhelming majority view among the Church Fathers that the days were 24-hour days or held to the Augustinian minority belief in an instantaneous creation.
God's Word as understood in the Church from the beginning revealed that God created all of the different kinds of creatures supernaturally, for man, in the beginning of time, and that is why Catholics have always believed, believe and will always believe in this Truth - without seeking or demanding any confirmation whatsoever from natural science.
The Negative Testimony of Natural Science
The testimony of natural science to the Truth of God's Revelation in Genesis One can only be negative. Natural science can merely testify to nature's impotence to do what only God can do. That is one of the great themes of the DVD series "Foundations Restored" - that the Supernatural Creation/Providence Framework provides the only framework within which to understand the origin of the world correctly; while the naturalist-uniformitarian Cartesian-Darwinian Narrative which reigns in worldwide academia blinds brilliant minds to the fundamental truth of man's origin and the origin of the material universe.
Let us thank Our Blessed Mother for obtaining the grace for us to believe what God has revealed about the origin of the "first Adam" in time, and about the origin of "the last Adam" in time and in eternity. May She continue to help us to proclaim this Truth effectively in the coming year, and, so, help to restore the "foundations of the Faith" and to hasten the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Social Reign of Jesus Christ throughout the world.
Yours in Christ through the Holy Theotokos, in union with St. Joseph,
