Read More »Dear Friends of the Kolbe Center, Glory to Jesus Christ! From the founding of the Kolbe Center until today, we have never refused an invitation to defend the traditional Catholic doctrine of creation from the perspective of theology, philosophy and natural science. Nor have we refused challenges from atheists and New Age believers as well as Catholic theistic evolutionists and progressive creationists. A few days ago, Dr. Kevin Mark and I agreed to participate in a discussion with a London-based internet host who calls himself “Esoteric.” Esoteric was joined by one of his associates and by a self-identified “Rabbi” of the so-called Raelian movement. As explained by the Rabbi and summarized by Wikipedia: Raëlian beliefs and practices are the concepts and principles of Raëlism, a new religious movement and UFO religion founded in 1974 by Claude Vorilhon, an auto racing journalist who changed his name to "Raël".[1][2][3][4] The followers of the International Raëlian Movement believe in an advanced species of extraterrestrial aliens called Elohim who created life on Earth.[1][5] Raëlians are individualists who believe in sexual self-determination.[1][6] As advocates of the universal ethic and world peace, they believe the world would be better if geniuses had an exclusive right to …
Read More »Dear Friends of the Kolbe Center, Glory to Jesus Christ! The Kolbe Center is incredibly blessed to have such a dedicated team of speakers, researchers, and friends who support us with their prayers and donations. Our chief biologist, Pamela Acker, has made a tremendous contribution to our defense of the traditional Catholic doctrine of creation. In this newsletter I would like to share her analysis of an article by Dr. Sean Pittman that I quoted in a newsletter a few weeks ago. In that article I cited an example from Dr. Pittman of “the most” that mutation-plus-natural-selection could do because I did not want to misrepresent the little that it can accomplish, even as we continue to demonstrate how little mutation-plus-natural-selection can achieve compared to what every system of microbe-to-man evolution requires. Pamela Acker obtained the original paper referenced by Dr. Pittman and was able to demonstrate that the mutation that allegedly produced a “new enzyme” did not actually produce any new function at all. I am very grateful for her analysis and I want to share it with you at once, so that you can see that even the very limited claim that he made for new functionality arising …

One of the challenges we have faced since the very beginning of the Kolbe Center is the difficulty in finding opportunities to debate the champions of theistic evolution and progressive creation in an open forum. We have never refused a challenge, and we have a standing offer to go anywhere in the world to defend the traditional Catholic doctrine of creation at our own expense. In almost 25 years, we have only had three opportunities to debate Catholic defenders of theistic evolution or progressive creation. A few years ago, we were delighted when we were invited to participate in a Trialogue in writing on six questions about Genesis 1-11 with two Dominican priests, one of whom defends theistic evolution and identifies himself as a “Thomistic evolutionist,” the other of whom is a progressive creationist. But after we had only completed two of the six replies, the Thomistic evolutionist excused himself on the grounds that his schedule had gotten too busy for him to continue the trialogue. On another occasion, the head of a prominent Catholic organization agreed to arrange a debate between two of his colleagues and two …
Read More »Dear Friends of the Kolbe Center, Christ is baptized! In the Jordan! In this newsletter I would like to renew an appeal that I have made many times during the last 22 years. But first I will explain the background to my appeal. The reigning Pope when Darwin published his book On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life was Blessed Pope Pius IX. In a letter of commendation for a book by a French physician critical of Darwin’s Origin of Species, Blessed Pope Pius IX articulated his verdict on the evolutionary hypothesis: ...[Evolution] is a system which is so repugnant at once to history, to the tradition of all the peoples, to exact science, to observed facts, and even to Reason herself, it would seem to need no refutation, did not alienation from God and the leaning toward materialism, due to depravity, eagerly seek a support in all this tissue of fables . . . It is noteworthy that the Pope did not see the serious scientific shortcomings of Darwin’s hypothesis as its most fundamental weakness. Rather, the Holy Father first noted the total contradiction between …
Read More »Dear. Mr. Owen, Thank you for your website. I stumbled across it at just the right time in my life. You see, I have been an ordained youth pastor in two mainline Protestant denominations for the past decade. When I was encouraged by my local church to pursue a Master of Divinity degree, I began my studies and fell in love with the Church Fathers. While I began to see the truth of the Catholic Faith through my study of Patristics, and then by reading modern Catholic apologists, I knew that the only right course for me was to enter the Catholic Church in full fellowship. As you can imagine, it has been a hard and painful road for someone with a young family, walking away from a career with a family to support. My wife and I met our real test of faith when we began our RCIA class this past fall. We found what we perceived to be a low view of Scripture and Tradition. Scripture was interpreted with what I would call a "hyper-allegorical" hermeneutical approach. The teachings of the Fathers were also reduced to a subjective experience for their time not ours. Within this framework, the …
